The Gospel Message

The gospel, "The Good News" is about how man can come to God, it's about how God himself set out to rescue mankind from sin and death that they may know and live with Him for eternity.

The Bible tells us that God is Holy, in Him there is no sin and he created man to spend time with Him in a true and loving relationship. But the Bible then goes on to tell us how man has sinned and that sin separates us from God, we cannot come into his presence with sin in our lives. Romans 3v23 says "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"

Some people say that they have not sinned, that they live a good life and yet when Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was he replied "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. " Matthew 22v37. I think we would all agree that none of us has kept that commandment so we won't even bother looking at the other commandments. The simple truth is that our greatest sin is living our lives in rebellion against God, trying to live life our own way rather than the way He has set out for us. This sin causes a separation between man and God not just in this life but in the life to come. Romans 6v23 says "The wages of sin is death.... " , that death is a spiritual death and it's eternal. That is what our sin deserves.

But God in His love sent Jesus and the verse continues "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" Romans 6v23. God so wanted a relationship with man, He loved us when we did not deserve to be loved, He loved us despite our rebellion and He offers us a way back into relationship with Him. He did this by sending Jesus to die on the cross, to pay the death penalty our sin deserves. Romans 5v8 says "God demonstrates His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us" . He died to pay the penalty that we could not afford to pay.

The simple truth is that Jesus did everything we need for salvation by dying on the cross for us, there is nothing that we can do to earn salvation it is just a matter of accepting the way that Jesus has made. There is no other way, Jesus said "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14v6. If there was any other way for man to get to God then God would not have sent Jesus to die in our place.

God offers this new life as a free "gift." Romans 6v23

So what do we need to do to accept this gift from God? The simple truth is that we just need to ask, to confess we are a sinner, to confess we are lost and to simply ask Jesus to be our lord and saviour. Romans 10v13 says "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved", we just need to cry out to God and ask for his forgiveness, to put your total trust in the finished work of Jesus on the cross and turn from your sin. We don't turn from our sin to earn salvation, we do it in thankfulness for what God has done for us, the Bible calls it repentance .

There is no fancy prayer or special words, you just need to cry out to God, accept Jesus as lord and saviour and ask God to take over your life, to turn from your sin and start living your life for God putting Him first.

There's nothing else you can do, if you think you are too bad, that your sin is too great, then you are the one God is looking for. Your life may seem out of control, that there is no hope, but if we give our life to Jesus he can change our lives. In our lives there are many problems and many issues, the answer is found in Jesus if we will just trust him and live our lives for him.
